Your situation

What happens to your premium?

Pick what happened. Each insurer sets its own refund rules, so treat this as a guide and check your policy wording.

Visa refused, before the policy starts

Usually a full refund

Send the visa refusal letter to the insurer before the policy’s start date. Some insurers deduct a small administration fee.

What to send

  • Visa refusal letter
  • Policy number and a written refund request
How to ask

Four steps to your refund

STEP 1

Act quickly

Contact the insurer as soon as plans change. Refunds often depend on when you ask, and insurers set time limits.

STEP 2

Gather proof

The refusal letter, proof of departure or proof of provincial coverage, depending on your situation.

STEP 3

Send a written request

Include the policy number, the reason and your documents. Keep a copy of everything.

STEP 4

Get your refund

The insurer reviews it. Refunds usually go back to the original payment method.
