Super Visa insurance. IRCC requires at least $100,000 of emergency coverage for health care, hospitalization and repatriation, valid for at least one year from entry, from a Canadian or OSFI-authorized insurer.

Visitor insurance. It covers medical emergencies during the stay and is priced by the number of days. Buying before arrival avoids the sickness waiting period that usually applies if you buy after arriving.

Many students in Ontario are covered by UHIP through their school. Student insurance helps with gaps, such as before a school plan starts or after graduation on a PGWP.

Only a little. OHIP pays up to $400 a day for emergency inpatient care in certain units and up to $50 a day for outpatient care. Travel insurance covers the rest.
